Whitey on the Moon
First thing that came to my mind yesterday. You don’t know it? Prophetic. The first time I heard it I was in college, and half-scandalized, half-amused.

I sarcastically call myself El Tejano because I'm from Philadelphia and live in South Texas. Not a great fit, but sometimes, economists notwithstanding, you don't get to choose. My passions are jazz, Mexican history and economics. Go figure View more posts
I met him in 1972 when I was at WXPN (doing all sorts of things, including on-air work and engineering). I engineered the Radio Free Black America show, and one or another of the hosts had invited Gil Scott-Heron. He was about 10 feet from me, not in the studio but in the control room, and performed The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. Perhaps not as prophetic. Come to think of it, he may also have done Whitey on the Moon. And probably something else. Can’t remember. What stuck were the lyrics to The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. Too bad he’s not still alive.

Woah. This is on the nose all right. Like nearly everything in life, where you stand to look makes all the difference.
